Wood Brothers Invests in Stertil-Koni Mobile Column Washbay Lifts

Wood Brothers Travel, a coach operator serving Torbay and South Devon, has strengthened its vehicle cleaning and maintenance operations with the addition of Stertil-Koni mobile column lifts.
Operating from Buckfastleigh, the company runs a modern fleet of coaches for school transport, private hire and airport transfers. To support regular outdoor washbay activity, Stertil-Koni supplied a set of cabled mobile column lifts complete with specialist protective covers, designed to withstand demanding external conditions.
The installation comprises six Stertil-Koni ST1075FSA mobile columns, each with a lifting capacity of 7.5 tonnes, delivering a total capacity of 45 tonnes. This provides Wood Brothers with a safe and efficient system for raising large vehicles such as buses and coaches during cleaning and inspection.
A key advantage for the operator is the ebright Smart Control System, which enables engineers to control the columns individually or as a synchronised set via intuitive touch screen consoles. This flexibility helps streamline washbay processes, reducing downtime and improving overall productivity.
Designed with safety and precision in mind, each column incorporates an independent mechanical locking system to securely support the vehicle, alongside microprocessor-controlled synchronisation for smooth, level lifting. With a lifting speed of up to 1.85 metres in just 75 seconds, the system helps minimise turnaround times between washes.
The cabled configuration is powered by a standard 415V power supply and includes heavy-duty cabling, ensuring robust connectivity. In addition, maintenance-free synthetic runner wheels and an integrated hydraulic pallet truck mechanism allow the columns to be positioned quickly and easily within the washbay area.
For Wood Brothers, the inclusion of protective covers is particularly valuable. These help shield the equipment from water, cleaning chemicals and changing weather conditions, ensuring dependable performance during frequent outdoor use.
