TCR Enhances GSE Maintenance with Stertil-Koni Mobile Columns

Stertil-Koni GSE vehicle lifts

TCR, a leading provider of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for the aviation industry, has invested in new wireless mobile column lifts from Stertil-Koni to enhance safety, flexibility and productivity at its Stockport workshop. This latest installation is in addition to Stertil-Koni lifts already in operation at TCR sites across the UK.

The company has installed four ST1085FWA column lifts, each capable of lifting 8.5 tonnes, for a combined lifting capacity of 34 tonnes. The new lifts enable TCR’s engineers to handle a wide range of GSE vehicles with greater efficiency and confidence.

Given the diversity of equipment maintained - including aircraft tow tractors, pushback trucks, and baggage conveyor vehicles, versatility was a key requirement. To support low-clearance vehicles, TCR specified a low adaptor compatible with the mobile columns. This allows lifting directly by the chassis or the wheels, providing a safe and stable solution across different vehicle types without compromising access for technicians.

In airport workshop environments, where wireless frequency traffic is high, reliable communication between lifting columns is essential. Stertil-Koni’s wireless mesh network is engineered to overcome the interference challenges often associated with conventional radio or Bluetooth systems, maintaining stable synchronisation across all columns for safe, uninterrupted lifting.

Ease of use was another important consideration. Each column is equipped with Stertil-Koni’s ebright Smart Control System, featuring a full-colour touchscreen interface. Engineers can operate lifts individually, in pairs or as a complete set from any column, reducing setup time so teams can focus on maintenance tasks.

Safety and control remain central to the system’s design. An integrated mechanical locking mechanism and microprocessor-controlled synchronisation keep vehicles securely supported at all times.

Powered by high-performance deep-cycle batteries that draw energy only during lifting, the mobile columns are designed to maximise operational uptime while keeping energy use efficient.

With this latest investment, TCR benefits from a robust, adaptable lifting solution that supports its commitment to safe, efficient and reliable GSE maintenance.
