Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus and coach operator, has enhanced its maintenance facilities at its Athlone workshop with the installation of a Stertil-Koni SKYLIFT platform lift.
Stertil-Koni currently holds Bus Éireann’s heavy-duty vehicle lift supply contract and was appointed to provide a lifting solution for the depot.
The operator selected a SKY250 model, providing a lifting capacity of 25 tonnes, with 10-metre platforms to accommodate the coaches maintained at the Athlone workshop. The lift was also specified with integrated LED lighting to improve visibility beneath vehicles, together with a 16-tonne air-operated jacking beam for wheel-free maintenance.
The SKYLIFT has been installed within an open recess, with the drive-on platforms sitting flush with the surrounding workshop floor for easy vehicle entry. An access slope built into the recess allows technicians to walk down beneath the vehicle once raised, providing a convenient working area for inspection, servicing and maintenance.
Using a fully hydraulic scissor-lift design, the SKYLIFT raises vehicles vertically without horizontal movement, helping to maximise usable workshop space.
With no base frame or cross beams beneath the platforms, and the lifting legs positioned towards either end of the lift, the SKYLIFT minimises obstructions within the working area. This provides technicians with greater freedom of movement when carrying out inspection, servicing and repair work.
Safety and lifting accuracy are supported by an independent mechanical locking system, which engages from just 90mm above floor level. Individual measuring systems within each lifting leg help maintain smooth, synchronised platform movement throughout the lifting and lowering cycle.
The lift is also equipped with Stertil-Koni’s patented eBright Smart Control System. Its touchscreen interface gives technicians straightforward control of lift functions, contributing to efficient day-to-day workshop operation.
