Blackburn & Darwen Council Upgrades Workshop with Stertil-Koni Skylift

Blackburn & Darwen Council has enhanced its vehicle maintenance capabilities with the installation of a 35-tonne capacity SKYLIFT truck lift from Stertil-Koni, strengthening its ability to service a wide range of heavy-duty vehicles safely and efficiently.
Replacing an ageing recessed lift at the depot, the Stertil-Koni SKYLIFT was selected as it could be installed directly into the existing recess, eliminating the need for costly and disruptive groundworks while minimising downtime.
Featuring a fully hydraulic, ‘clear-floor design’, the Stertil-Koni SKYLIFT rises vertically with no horizontal offset. This space-saving approach helps to maximise usable workshop space and improves day-to-day workflow compared with conventional platform lift designs.
The depot opted for the SKY350 model, which offers a substantial 35-tonne lifting capacity, making it well suited to the Council’s diverse fleet of trucks and other heavy vehicles. To meet specific operational requirements, the lift was supplied with a number of additional features, including an integrated LED lighting kit to improve visibility beneath vehicles during inspections and servicing.
Flush-mounted at floor level, the SKYLIFT provides easy drive-on access, making it ideal for low-clearance vehicles, while still delivering a lifting height of 1.75 metres in just 90 seconds. Its innovative design - featuring no base frame or cross beams and lifting legs positioned only at either end - allows unrestricted access around the vehicle, a key advantage for the depot’s varied maintenance tasks.
Safety and precision are further enhanced by the SKYLIFT’s independent mechanical locking system, which engages from just 90mm above floor level. Individual measuring devices in each lifting leg ensure smooth, level synchronisation throughout the lifting process.
To support efficient day-to-day operation, the SKYLIFT is equipped with Stertil-Koni’s patented eBright Smart Control System. The intuitive touchscreen interface provides technicians with clear, user-friendly control of the lift, helping to streamline workshop operations.
