Essex County Fire & Rescue Service has expanded its workshop capabilities in Colchester with the addition of two new Stertil-Koni mobile column lifts, giving its maintenance team greater flexibility and improved efficiency when servicing vehicles. The investment also ensures the team is well-prepared for a future move to a new facility, with equipment that can be easily relocated when the time comes.
The two new ST1075FSA mobile column lifts integrate seamlessly with an existing set of four columns, creating a six-column system capable of lifting up to 45 tonnes. This enables the team to safely raise heavy fire engines and support vehicles - helping technicians work more efficiently and make the most of every inch of their workshop.
The wireless design of these lifts eliminates the need for cables, reducing trip hazards and cutting setup time - creating a safer and more streamlined working environment for technicians. Touchscreen consoles on each column allow full control, whether operating lifts individually or as a synchronised set, making daily maintenance tasks faster and smoother while reducing vehicle downtime.
Safety is always a top priority, and the Stertil-Koni columns deliver peace of mind with built-in mechanical locking systems and a microprocessor-controlled synchronisation feature. Vehicles are held securely in place during lifting, while the precision control ensures smooth, stable movement to the full height of 1.85 metres in just 75 seconds.
Powered by deep-cycle batteries that consume energy only when lifting, the system is designed for efficiency - minimising downtime while reducing power usage. Adjustable-width forks further enhance versatility, accommodating a variety of tyre sizes across different vehicles.
