New Column Lifts Enhance East Sussex Fire & Rescue Vehicle Maintenance

07/08/24 | 2024

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service has significantly upgraded its vehicle lifting capabilities with the acquisition of mobile column lifts from Stertil-Koni, a global leader in heavy-duty vehicle lifting solutions.

Serving East Sussex and Brighton and Hove City, East Sussex Fire & Rescue is dedicated to responding to emergencies and working proactively with communities to prevent them. To ensure their fleet is always in optimal condition and ready to respond quickly and effectively, the service recently enhanced its workshop with a second set of Stertil-Koni's ST1075FWA wireless column lifts, which includes four individual columns.

Vehicle lift for emergency vehicles

The wireless design of these columns allows technicians to set up the lifts quickly without the need for connecting cables, streamlining workflows and saving valuable time and effort. Additionally, the absence of cables on the floor reduces the risk of accidents in the workshop, contributing to a safer working environment for all personnel.

To complement the lifting capabilities of the column lifts, ESFRS also ordered a set of tall axle stands and a set of medium height axle stands. These stands provide the flexibility to remove the mobile columns for free wheel support or to act as additional support while the columns are still in place.

Each of the mobile columns offer a lifting capacity of 7.5 tonnes, providing an overall safe lifting capacity of 30 tonnes for the set. The mobile columns incorporate Stertil-Koni’s revolutionary ebright Smart Control System, enabling workshop engineers to operate the columns individually, in pairs, or in any other combination from any column in the set. Positioning of the mobile columns is also totally flexible, enabling them to be used in any configuration around a vehicle.

The ebright Smart Control System, with its full-colour touch screen consoles, simplifies operation by providing maximum visual information about every lifting operation, all at the fingertips of the workshop engineers.

Powered by long-life deep cycle batteries, the Stertil-Koni ST1075FWA heavy-duty lifts deliver optimum performance for at least a week on average before recharging is necessary. Battery life is prolonged because power is only used to raise a vehicle, unlike screw-lifts, resulting in less frequent recharging. Charging is carried out by plugging each lift into a 230v single-phase supply.

Supplied complete with adjustable width forks, the Stertil-Koni ST1075FWA easily meets the challenge of lifting vehicles with differing tyre widths to ensure maximum versatility.

This investment in advanced vehicle lifting technology underscores East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service's commitment to maintaining a fleet that is always ready for rapid and effective emergency response.
