“Our workshop technicians are responsible for a very diverse range of vehicles and the Stertil Koni mobile column lifts have provided us with the total flexibility and safety we were looking for,” says Stuart Carrington, managing director of Wigan Truck & Tachograph Centre. “Also, at every stage of the purchasing, installation and commissioning process, we received excellent advice and assistance from the Stertil Koni team.”
Wigan Truck & Tachograph Centre recently specified two sets of Stertil Koni wireless mobile column lifts to provide total workshop flexibility within its premises at Ashton-in-Makerfield.
As one of the North West’s leading vehicle engineering companies, Wigan Truck & Tachograph Centre offers a comprehensive range of servicing, maintenance, repair and tachograph calibration activities including the fitment of complete systems. The company’s technicians are experienced in working on all types of road vehicles and axle configurations including tippers, cement mixers, Hiab vehicles, tractor units, rigid vehicles, vans, coaches and buses. This wide range of vehicle types and variable peaks of demand call for maximum workshop flexibility which is provided by the Stertil Koni lifts.
The eight wireless mobile column lifts, type ST1075 FWA, each provide a safe lifting capacity of 7.5 tonnes and are most often used in two separate sets of four. This configuration provides a total lifting capacity of 30 tonnes per set. However, during operations requiring longer and heavier vehicles to be raised, the number of lifts in the set can be increased up to eight thereby increasing the total safe lifting capacity to 60 tonnes.
Another significant aid to maximising workshop flexibility is the revolutionary ebright Smart Control System which enables workshop technicians to operate the columns individually, in pairs or in any other configuration from any column in the set. Incorporating wireless mesh network connectivity and full-colour touch screen consoles, the ebright Smart Control System has been designed and developed to simplify operation by providing maximum visual information about every lifting operation. For added safety and performance, the ebright Smart Control System also shows how many columns in the set are being used plus the battery status of each column.
Long-life deep cycle batteries power the lifts for at least a week on average before recharging is necessary and the batteries can then be charged overnight via a 230v single phase supply. With no cables on the workshop floor, the risk of tripping is removed, providing valuable health and safety benefits and, with no wired power supply, the system can be used safely inside or outdoors. The absence of power and communication cables also means that set-up time is drastically reduced thereby making the system fully operational much more quickly.
To further maximise the versatility and flexibility of the Stertil Koni wireless mobile column lifts, Wigan Truck and Tachograph Centre also specified additional equipment including four JS-H8 axle stands and a 2000kg capacity manual transmission jack.
