Arriva NW Installs New Stertil Koni Skylift In Washbay

18/06/18 | 2018

“Our plant manager had previous successful experience of Stertil vehicle lifts in another Arriva garage so we were pleased to have his input in the purchasing decision,” says Steve Evans, Engineering Manager at Arriva North West. “Our old screw and nut design lift was eventually unable to cope with the combination of dirt, grit and degreasing fluids within the chassis wash bay. However, the fully galvanised, electro-hydraulic lift from Stertil Koni is a bespoke design and has really improved our chassis cleaning operation. The Skylift is definitely the right tool for the job.”

As a key element of upgrading vehicle chassis washing facilities at its Southport depot, Arriva North West has replaced an old 6-post platform lift with an electro-hydraulic Skylift 200-7WB from Stertil Koni.

The fully galvanised, 20 tonne capacity Skylift platform lift was recently installed within the depot’s dedicated chassis wash bay to simplify general washing and MOT preparation duties. During installation, the Skylift was recessed into the wash bay floor area thereby enabling vehicles to be driven directly onto the lift’s seven metres long parallel platforms. A stainless-steel control box, was positioned to the side of the lift to allow the operator to view the raising & lowering process. LED lights illuminate the underfloor of the vehicle to aid the steam-cleaning operation.

All Skylifts ramps can be installed to a width compatible with a customer’s needs and within space limitations of workshops or working areas. This is aided by the Skylift’s vertical lifting and lowering movement which, unlike a parallelogram lift, means there are no obtrusive overhangs. Varying platform lengths accommodate any vehicle including lorries, trucks, tractors and articulated buses whilst remaining unobstructed from all sides.
